Amazing Race 17 – the Doctors win big…….

For Amazing Race fans – Sundays final was a little excitement lite.

Of the final 3 teams, 2 were all female. As the team with only guy, I actually didn’t want overtly arrogant Thomas and Jill to win, as he made much of his college education while she was a hairdresser. Although it must been frustrating to have lead so far across the globe, overcoming cultural and language barriers, and to be stumped when hitting Los Angeles. To have the only taxi driver who didn’t know what the internet was and have limited English, probably cost them $1 million.

In the end it was the unflappable, amiable and calm Anesthesiologists Nat and Kat who became the first all female to win. My fav’s: the Home Shopping Queens,  Brooke and Claire came second. We loved their unending enthusiasm and laughter. (They should have won after Claire got that Melon shot into her face!). To both female teams credit is well deserved, they played a fair race and did so with little complaining. At one point, Kat, a dedicated vegetarian, had to devour a cooked sheep head and did so with class. Well done ladies!

MALLORY IS BACK!!!!! Amazing Race 18 – ‘Unfinished Business’…………..

But the BIG BIG news is that season 18 has been titled ‘AR 18 Unfinished Business’ and a chance for former contestants to have another go. Mallory is coming back!!! Father and Daughter team Gary and former beauty queen Mallory from this season are joining such teams as season 16 cowboys Jet and Cord.  In all 18 teams are coming back! Brilliant!

Larry King – finally retiring……..

Larry King  interviews the legend that is Al Pacino. During a rambling conversation about his career, King asks him about the 1989 film ‘Sea of Love’ where Pacino plays opposite Ellen Barkin. There is a heated love scene between them. King goes for the killer question: ‘Were you excited?’

And you wonder why he’s finally giving up his CNN gig after 25 years?

………coming to you soon: ‘Witch on Wheels’

An unfortunate mix of little sleep and poor time management resulted in slammed doors, profanities and general foulness on the way to work one morning. My mood was slapped into place with a black car plastered in stickers such as ‘I love witchcraft’, ‘All mothers are working mothers’ and ‘Sorry I didn’t go to church, I stayed home to learn witchcraft, and be a lesbian’. Makes you wonder what motivates people, and why the female driver who looked about 60, wants it loudly known that there’s a ‘WITCH ON WHEELS’ in the neighborhood…….c’est la vie?

Sir Elton John: a good old queen……..

Listening to my favorite pod-casts on the way to work. Being a ex – brit I get my fix of top quality reportage and entertainment with the likes of Simon Mayo, Steve Wright and Scott Mills from BBC Radio. It’s refreshing to hear well known celebrities who can be articulate about their art and use their celebrity to good use.Elton John is certainly well known and is as busy and active as ever. He just has collaborated with entertainer/song writer Leon Russell. They met back in 1970 but lost touch with each other. Elton admired his talent, but over the years Leon slipped into obscurity with poor health whilst living in a 30 year old RV.

It was while on vacation in Africa, Elton happened upon one of Leon’s early albums and broke down reminiscing about the happy and creative times they had 40 years earlier. What happened to him he wondered?  Such is the interconnectivity of celebrity, Elton managed to call Leon 37 years since he lasted talked to him. Just 40 minutes later,  Elton recalled Leon having arranged for a top producer with studio time, and invited him to do a record together.  Asked why,  Elton stated he wanted to re-establish Leon rightful place among musicians, pay some bills and give him the sense of respect Elton clearly felt he deserved in the pantheon of musicianship.  In doing so, Elton was giving Leon the best gift of all: the opportunity to work and in doing so, re-validate his own self worth. Nice one Elton!

Anyhoo, for now…….
